She was born in Columbus Ohio, and grew up in Cambridge, Massachusetts, where she attended Cambridgeport and Cambridge Rindge and Latin public schools. She was named for her great-great aunt, Ida Bole McCandless. In the 2007-08 academic year, Ida lived in Rome, Italy, on RISD's European Honors Program. She ate prosciutto and cheese and saw Bernini and Caravaggio every single day. Ida's work deals with examining the natural world and its emotional effects, over a range of media.
